Origami: How to make a Coiled Spring**

-prepare a strip of paper about 2 x 25 cm (3/4 x 10 in) e.g. by cutting along the edge of a sheet of writing paper.

1. Curl the paper slightly by running it between the thumb and fore finger of one hand, and then wind it tightly into a spiral. Let the edges of the strip overlap by just a few millimeters(not more than 1/8 of an inch) all the way along its length. Stand the completed spiral on a flat surface, holding it between thumb and finger with the narrow end down.

2. Press it down into a coil(you should be able to feel the tension this creates). Let the coil go.

3. The paper should spring into the air reaching a height two or three times greater than its own length. This coiled spring exemplifies the simplest type of action model - one in which the natural elastic force of the paper is directly exploited, i.e y pinching or pressing it to create a counter movement. Models such as jumping frogs operate on this principle, although they are more complex in construction.

PhotoShop: Using Rectangular Marquee tool

Selecting with the rectangular marquee tool

You’ll start practicing selection techniques using the rectangular marquee tool.

•Click file/open and select your desired pic.
•Select the rectangular marquee tool .
•Drag it diagonally from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of pic to Create a rectangular selection.

You can move a selection border after you’ve drawn it by positioning the pointer within the selection and dragging. Notice that this technique changes the location of the selection border; it does not affect the size or shape of the selection.

•Position the pointer anywhere inside the selection surrounding your pic. The pointer becomes an arrow with a small selection icon next to it.

•Drag to reposition the border around your pic.

Note: Repositioning techniques for selection borders work with any of the marquee, lasso, and
magic wand tools.

If you are still not happy with the selection after repositioning it, you can deselect it and
redraw it.

•Choose Select > Deselect, or click anywhere in the window outside the selection border
to deselect the selection.

•Reselect your pic using the rectangular marquee tool again.
